How can we help?

Setup, privacy and fixes for the ReplyKey keyboard. Didn’t find it? Write to hello@replykey.app; a real person answers, usually within a few days.

Getting started

How do I turn on the keyboard?
  1. Open the iPhone Settings app → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard… and pick ReplyKey.
  2. Tap ReplyKey in the list and turn on Allow Full Access (needed for the AI replies, see below).
  3. In any app, tap a text field, then hold the 🌐 globe key and choose ReplyKey.

The ReplyKey app walks you through this on first launch, and again from the Setup tab.

Why does it need Full Access?

Full Access is what iOS calls letting a keyboard use the network and share files with its own app. ReplyKey needs it for two things:

  • to send the conversation you ask about to the AI provider that writes the replies;
  • to read what the ReplyKey app and Live mode prepared (the replies, the chat it just read), which are shared through the app’s private storage on your iPhone.

Apple shows a general warning that a keyboard with Full Access could send what you type. ReplyKey doesn’t record or send your keystrokes; it only sends a chat when you ask for replies, and a draft when you ask to rewrite it. Details are in the privacy policy.

Can I use it without Full Access?

Yes, as a normal keyboard for typing. The AI replies, rewrites and voice need Full Access; ReplyKey tells you in the keyboard when a feature needs it.

How do I get replies?

ReplyKey needs to see the chat, and a keyboard can’t see the screen by itself. There are two ways, both in the app’s Setup tab:

  • Screenshots with the Action Button (the main way): put the “ReplyKey Replies” shortcut on the Action Button (Settings → Action Button → Shortcut). Press it on their profile and on the chat, then tap the message field: the reply is written from those screenshots. With the keyboard already open, a press writes replies at once.
  • Live mode with Back Tap: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap → “ReplyKey Live” (“ReplyKey Start Live” before iOS 26). Double-tap the back of your iPhone to start Live mode, open the chat, tap the message field and tap Generate replies.

The app adds each shortcut for you: tap Add “…”, then Shortcuts and Add Shortcut.

Does it send messages for me?

Never. ReplyKey only puts the reply in the message field. You read it, change it if you want, and press send yourself.

Live mode and privacy

What is Live mode? Is it recording my screen?

Live mode uses iOS screen broadcasting, sent only to ReplyKey’s own extension on your iPhone, never to a streaming service. iOS asks you to confirm when it starts and shows the red indicator while it runs.

  • Frames stay in memory on your iPhone and are dropped when Live mode pauses or stops. No video is saved.
  • Nothing goes to the AI until you ask for replies. Then only the chat you are in (usually as text read on your iPhone) and that person’s profile screens you looked at in the last few minutes are sent.
  • With Remember profiles I look at on, profile and chat screens are kept on your iPhone for up to 15 minutes, then deleted. Turn it off or tap Forget now in Settings → Live mode.
  • It turns itself off after 10 minutes without use. Stop it any time with the same button, the red indicator, or the Lock Screen.
Does Live mode hear my audio?

A screen broadcast also receives the sound your iPhone plays. ReplyKey uses it only to turn voice messages you play into text, so replies know what was said. If you don’t want that, don’t play voice messages while Live mode runs. The microphone is only used when you dictate with 🎤. Clips are kept for at most 10 minutes on your iPhone.

Where do my chats go?

What ReplyKey remembers about the people you talk to stays on your iPhone. When you ask for replies, the conversation passes through ReplyKey’s server to an AI provider (Anthropic, or Google or OpenAI as backup) to write them; our server never stores your chats, only a random ID and usage counts. Settings → About → AI and your chats → Delete my data deletes both. See the privacy policy.

Are my screenshots saved to Photos?

No. Screens ReplyKey reads are scaled down, kept privately for at most 15 minutes and never added to your photo library.

Your data

How do I delete my data?
  • Everything at once, on your iPhone and on our server: Settings → About → AI and your chats → Delete my data.
  • One person: Chats → the person → Delete, or swipe the person left in Chats.
  • Everyone: Chats → Delete all chats.
  • Your profile: You → More (…) → Clear Profile.
  • Reply history: Chats → History → Clear.
  • Remembered screens: Settings → Live mode → Forget now. Stopping Live mode deletes them and voice-message clips too.
  • Everything on your iPhone: delete the ReplyKey app (use Delete my data first to also delete your data on our server).

Our server never stores your chats. It keeps only a random ID, usage counts and request records without content, which Delete my data removes; see the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

The keyboard disappeared or switched back to Apple’s

iOS uses its own keyboard in password and phone-number fields and in some apps’ secure fields. Tap the 🌐 globe key to switch back. If ReplyKey is missing from the globe list, add it again in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.

“Full Access is off” although I turned it on

Switch Allow Full Access off and on again in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → ReplyKey, then close and reopen the app you’re typing in.

Live mode stopped by itself

It turns off after 10 minutes without use, and iOS can end a broadcast when memory runs low or a call comes in. Press your Live mode button again to restart it.

The reply is wrong or about the wrong person

Tap the name chip above the replies to pick the right person, or use the edit buttons (Shorter, Warmer, Formal, translate, your own words). AI can make mistakes: always read a reply before you send it.
